Josef Martínez is a Venezuelan player who plays professional football for Inter Miami in MLS. At this moment, he is one of the most promising and emerging talents in the league. Early Life
Josef Martínez was born on 19th May 1993, making him 30 years old as of 2023. He was brought up by his loving father – Alexander Martinez, and mother- whose name is unknown. Martínez had his debut game for Caracas FC on 21 August 2010 and stood against Estudiantes de Mérida. Martinez entered as a substitute in the 70th minute and won the match by 1-0.
He had the first goal in a 2-2 draw while playing against Deportivo Petare on 21st November 2010. On 3rd January 2012, Martínez started playing for BSC Young Boys of the Swiss Super League for four years, as announced by Caracas. After spending one season in the Swiss Capital City, he was temporarily transferred to FC Thun. He scored eight goals in 18 games while being in the team from Bernese Oberland. Martínez was the top scorer in the league and was later recalled by the Young Boys.
Torino
Josef was transferred or sold to Italian Serie A club Torino on 7th June 2014 and was given a fee of €3 million. He had his debut game against Sweden’s Brommapojkarna and won the match by 0-3 played at the opponent’s ground in the 2014–15 Europa League. Later, he had the first goal for the Granata in the return leg and let the team win by 4-0.
Atlanta United [2017 to 2022]
Josef made his debut on 5th March and played against New York Red Bulls in a 2-1 home defeat. He had the first hattrick of his career and the first hattrick of the club while playing against Minnesota United and winning in hand by 6-1.
On 6th August 2019, Josef was given an award for being the MLS player of July. He earned the award for the straight nine matches and had the record for achieving an MLS award more than the previous season.
On 29th February 2020, during Atlanta United’s first game, Josef had to go through torn ACL while playing against MLS debutant Nashville SC. Because of this injury, he had to miss the entire season.
He scored the first goal of the 2022 season on 13th March 2022, and after having successful knee surgery, he started his first game in April and scored a goal.
Inter Miami
Josef joined Inter Miami for the 2023 season and he has become one of the key players for the club.
International Career
On 7th August 2011, Josef Martínez made an international appearance as a substitute during the 76th minute in a match against El Salvador. Then in 2016, on the 11th day of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification, he scored a hattrick against Bolivia with a win of 5-0.
