Katerina Tikhonova, also known as Yekaterina Vladimirovna Putina, is a Russian scientist, manager and former acrobatic dancer. She is best known as the second daughter of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Currently, despite the raging war between Russia and Ukraine, she has come under the spotlight for her controversial relationship with with 52-year-old Igor Zelensky — a surname same as the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who can be considered Putin’s current arch-nemesis.

Early life

Katerina Tikhonova was born on August 31, 1986 in Dresden, East Germany to Vladimir and Lyudmila Putina. She is the younger daughter of the couple and her elder sister’s name is Maria Vorontsova. In the spring of 1991, the family moved to Leningrad, now known as Saint Petersburg. Katerina studied acrobatic dance at the Peterschule, a German high school in Saint Petersburg.

After her family moved to Moscow, she attended the German School in Moscow and graduated with a specialization in Japan. She has a master’s degree in mathematics and physics. Tikhonova began her university studies at Saint Petersburg State University in July 2005 after taking entrance exams with her sister Maria.

Tikhonova became the head of a new Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Moscow State University in February 2020, according to Innopraktika. Tikhonova received her Drugs and Mathematics degree in May 2019 after successfully defending her discussion. The scientific work was entitled “Mathematical problems in altering vestibular mechanoreceptor activation”.
