Katerina Tikhonova, also known as Yekaterina Vladimirovna Putina, is a Russian scientist, manager and former acrobatic dancer. She is best known as the second daughter of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Currently, despite the raging war between Russia and Ukraine, she has come under the spotlight for her controversial relationship with with 52-year-old Igor Zelensky — a surname same as the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who can be considered Putin’s current arch-nemesis.
Early life
Katerina Tikhonova was born on August 31, 1986 in Dresden, East Germany to Vladimir and Lyudmila Putina. She is the younger daughter of the couple and her elder sister’s name is Maria Vorontsova. In the spring of 1991, the family moved to Leningrad, now known as Saint Petersburg. Katerina studied acrobatic dance at the Peterschule, a German high school in Saint Petersburg.
After her family moved to Moscow, she attended the German School in Moscow and graduated with a specialization in Japan. She has a master’s degree in mathematics and physics. Tikhonova began her university studies at Saint Petersburg State University in July 2005 after taking entrance exams with her sister Maria.
Katerina Tikhonova Career
Katerina is the director of Innopraktika, a $1.7 billion development project at Moscow State University to produce a wisdom complex. Innopraktika competes with the Skolkovo Innovation Center and is described by Stanislav Belkovsky as “anti-Skolkovo”.
Tikhonova became the head of a new Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Moscow State University in February 2020, according to Innopraktika. Tikhonova received her Drugs and Mathematics degree in May 2019 after successfully defending her discussion. The scientific work was entitled “Mathematical problems in altering vestibular mechanoreceptor activation”.
This was preceded by a race of scientific work in cooperation with well-known scientists. The scientific director was Viktor Sadovnichiy, a rector of Moscow State University. Tikhonova had become addicted to acrobatic gem rolling in the mid-2010s, an uncommonly Olympic sport with only around two hundred people ranked in the world.
In 2013, she and her buddy Ivan Klimov placed fifth at a Global Crown event in Switzerland. The brace finished second at the 2014 Russian Championship. Tikhonova was for a time vice president for expansion and marketing in the world association. Also in Russia, acrobatic jewels and rollers became fashionable.
From 2016 to 2019, an acrobatic gem and roller installation worth 2 billion rubles was developed at the sports academy where Tikhonova studied in the Moscow region. Because she is an adult child of Vladimir Putin, the US sanctioned Tikhonova on April 6, 2022 in response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine US Treasury Department.
Katerina Tikhonova Fly Ban
According to the Daily Mail, the 35-year-old Putin’s daughter is no longer allowed to fly from Moscow to Munich to live with her partner because of the sanctions imposed on her after Russia invaded Ukraine.
The investigation also mentioned leaked flight data of Katerina, who appeared to have flown to Munich “more than 50 times” with Russian intelligence guards between 2017 and 2019.

Personal life
In 2013, Tikhonova married businessman Kirill Shamalov, the son of Rossiya Bank co-owner Nikolay Shamalov. He is Vice President of Sibur Holding, a Russian gas processing and petrochemical company based in Moscow. Tikhonova and Shamalov split in January 2018, according to Bloomberg News.
She is said to have a daughter with ballet dancer Igor Zelensky, who was born in 2017. Igor Zelensky is a leading professional ballet dancer and the former director of the Munich state ballet.
