Francis was born on April 16, 1994 to her parents in Rumson, New Jersey, USA. She graduated from the Mason Gross School of Arts at Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. The identities of her parents are completely unknown, but we do know that her father is of Japanese descent. At the age of 20 she was trained to perform her first play, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, alongside Tom Carroll at Shakespeare’s Globe. After graduating, she had also studied in London.

Francis began her career performing a few stage shows after graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the age of 20. Her first stage show was in 2014 with Tom Carroll, The Two Gentlemen of Verona. In the same year she also starred as ‘Nina’ in the play ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’. The following year she had a stage performance in Peter and the Starcatcher as Molly and her debut short film called Killing Machine in which she played Angela. She has worked in a total of 5 short films including Good Boys, Chemistry of Mood and Bless this Mess, 5 TV shows including her most famous role as Lin in Younger in 2016, in Gotham as Emma Hsueh in 2017 .
Her starring role in Dash and Lily recently aired in 2020 along with a web show The Bicher as Lanie Bouchard and 6 stage appearances including her award winning on stage performances Connected, The Wolves and Usual Girls. New Work Innovative Theater Awards have recognized her with Outstanding Actress and Outstanding Ensemble awards. Her work in The Wolves earned her Distinguished Performance by an Ensemble and Outstanding Ensemble awards.
