Sunny Hostin is an American lawyer, author, journalist, and television host. She is currently a co-host on ABC’s morning talk show The View and the Senior Legal Correspondent and Analyst for ABC News. She was also the host and executive producer of Investigation Discovery’s true crime series Truth About Murder with Sunny Hostin.
Early life
Sunny Hostin was born Asuncion Cummings Hostin on October 20, 1968 in New York, USA. Raised with her mother Rosa Beza and father William Cummings, she is of mixed ethnicity as her mother is Puerto Rican and her father is African American. She is very fluent in Spanish and English.
Sunny completed her high school education at Dominican Academy All-Girls High School and later attended Binghamton University for her college education. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and Rhetoric and went on to study law at the Notre Dame Law School at the University of Notre Dame.

Sunny began her career as an attorney and accepted a position as a clerk for Robert M. Bell, the retired Chief Justice of the Maryland Court of Appeals. She worked there for some time and later became a trial attorney in the US Department of Justice. Sunny initially worked in the antitrust department but left to become a prosecutor. She practiced as a child sex crimes prosecutor and her work on child abuse and child abuse earned her the Distinguished Service Award from Attorney General Janet Reno. Sunny became Managing Director of Business Intelligence and Investigations at Kroll, a risk consulting firm, and also worked on detecting fraud in business units.
Sunny also wrote several articles on legal, criminal, financial and political topics in famous publications like Forbes Women, Uptown Magazine, Essence, New York Post, Wall Street Journal etc. She is also a well-known public speaker known for her oratory work in Corporate, academic and journalistic events. She began her career as a commentator when she began working at Court TV and later joined Fox News as a presenter. Sunny worked on the weekly legal segment of The O’Reilly Factor show, where she provided in-depth analysis and discussion of legal issues. She worked there until 2007, after which she joined the CNN network.

At CNN she began working as a legal analyst for shows such as News Day, Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin, AC360, and most notably American Morning. She discussed several legal issues on the show and later also became an executive producer for her own weekly segment called Sunny’s Law. Meanwhile, she also appeared as a regular guest on the ABC channel show The View in 2014, and in 2016 she joined the ABC network on a permanent basis and also became the show’s host.
She also became a podcast host for the ABC podcast Have You Seen This Man? In 2019, she produced a documentary series Truth About Murder with Sunny Hostin, in which she uncovered various murder stories and crimes. She also recently published a memoir titled I am These Truths in 2020, followed by a novel Summer on the Bluffs. She is currently slated to executive produce the show The Counsel, which is based on her career and life.
