Aleia Hobbs was born on February 24, 1996, in New Orleans on the Mississippi River in the southeastern region of the US state of Louisiana. Born to Margaret Hobbs and Arthur Mason, she has four sibling sisters – Aireal, Artrevia, DaJasia, and Mya – and one brother, AJ. Hobbs began showing an interest in walking and running at the age of eight. After graduating from high school, she went to Louisiana State University.

Aleia has had an urge to be an Olympian since she was in middle school, she used to run in youth track and field clubs in her elementary school. She joined LSU Lady Tigers, an athletic team representing Louisiana State University in 2014 and represented them until 2018. She won four national titles in 2018 — the 60-meter, the 100-meter, and the 4×100 meter relay at the NCAA Division I championships. and the 100 m at the US Championships.
After that, in 2019 she represented the United States at the 2019 World Relays and won the gold medal for them. In 2015, Hobbs represented the United States at the Pan American Junior Championships, winning a silver medal in the 100 m and a gold medal in the 4 × 100 m relay. Recently, Aleia competed in the 2021 season at the Battle on the Bayou in New Orleans, Louisiana. There she took the lead in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.99 seconds.
