Early life
Xeana Kamalani Dung was born on March 4, 1997 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born to parents Lance Dung and Honey Rodrigues and Lancen Dung is her younger brother. Dung studied at the Kamehameha Schools and later attended the University of California, Berkeley to complete her additional coursework.
Dung began playing competitive softball in Hawaii when she was only ten years old. She learned her unconventional pitching style through videos posted to YouTube and is now a self-taught hurling player. She was dubbed a “YouTube” pitcher after coaches learned she had never received professional pitching training.

Dung was named to the 2017 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge All-Tournament Team after going 2-2 with a 2.90 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 19.1 innings, including the tournament’s only no-hitter and the first of her career. She made 44 appearances, including 38 starts. She had a 26-15 record with 218 strikeouts in 254.1 innings and threw 31 complete games, including an MW-best nine shutouts.

Dung played her first NCAA game as a D1 collegiate player on October 22, 2015, against pro team USSSA Pride at the Margie Wright Diamond. During the 2016 season, Dung established herself as a rookie as one of the two starting players, helped her team win the Mountain West Conference, and was a member of one of the most iconic teams in MW history.
Rise to Fame
Fresno State not only had a state-leading 23-game winning streak that year that broke a previous school record but also ranked 17th on the RPI. Undefeated in conference play, Dung made her first regional appearance with a save.
She led the Golden Bears to their first top-25 wins since 2017 against No. 21 James Madison University and threw a one-hitter through the first five innings of a surprise win over No. 22 Arizona State University Sun Devils.
Dung gave Cal his first top-five win in a couple of years, threw a jewel and toggled the No. 5/No. Dung threw an entire game against .1 and eventual WCWS Champion UCLA in March, conceding no earned runs and four hits in the process.
With one run allowed and four strikeouts over five innings, Dung den Bear secured the win over OSU. In a crucial 1-0 win over Duke University on February 22, Dung knocked out 12 batters but conceded just two, earning her national recognition as one of the week’s top nine softball performances.
