Markquis Morris Nowell was born on December 25, 1999, in New York City. He was raised by his loving and caring parents named Marcus Nowell, Sr. and Kisha Morales. He shared his life with three other siblings – all brothers – Marcus, Marius, and Marek. After completing his high school education, he was offered to play for Minnesota, Georgetown, Rutgers, Seton Hall, VCU and Western Kentucky. Secondary school
Nowell twice transferred from one high school to another. He started at St. Anthony High School (Jersey City, NJ) where he had his first career start and played as a freshman. He later transferred to another high school – Bishop Loughlin (Brooklyn, New York) – where he played as a sophomore and sophomore and as a junior had a record average of 19.9 points and 8.1 assists per game. Finally, he played for The Patrick School (Hillside, New Jersey) in his senior season, averaging 10.9 points per game. In the midst of his playing season at Patrick School, he was absent from the basketball game studio because of his injuries.
University
As a newcomer to the sport, Nowell averaged 11.1 points, 4.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. After that, he had another sophomore average of 17.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game. He received the honor of the First Team All-Sun Belt and was later suspended for two games in January 2020 for his disciplinary conduct.
As a junior, he averaged 14.3 points, 6.0 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game but chose to retire from his remaining season in February 2020. He was then transferred to the state of Kansas, where he joined when Jerome Tang was hired to replace Bruce Weber.
