Early life

Ruthie Bolton was born on May 25, 1967, in Lucedale, Mississippi. She has gained some volunteer experience while working with different schools where she has promoted positivity and healthy living. Ruthie went to Auburn University where she received her bachelor’s degree in health and wellness. She remained engaged for her college basketball at Auburn University from 1985 to 1990. According to Encyclopedia, Bolton was one of the 16th of 20 children born to her father, the minister.

In the early years of her career after graduating from college, Bolton played for the Visby Ladies in Sweden in the 1990/91 season. The following season, she played in Hungary, becoming the first US woman to play professionally in the country.

She played in Italy with CA Fainzia for the 1992–93 season. Later in 1994, Bolton moved to Italy and began playing for Erreti Faenza. In the 1993-94 season, she averaged 28 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She remained committed to Faenza the following season, averaging 25.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. For the 1995-96 season she played in Turkey. Bolton saw her 8 straight seasons with the Sacramento Monarchs of WNBA.

Bolton got the chance to be part of the team that presented the USA at the World University Games in Sheffield, England during the July 1991 season. Although the USA team won the gold medal in 1983, the team won the silver medal in 1985, finished fifth in 1987, and later in 1989, the team did not field the game.

Coached by Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer, Bolton’s team won the opening games easily, later meeting China in the medal round. There, Bolton’s team won the tournament against China by 79-76 aggregate runs and later advanced to the gold medal game. Next, they faced Spain where they had overall winners by 88-62 for which they later went on to win the gold medal. During the game, Bolton was the team’s goalscorer and had 14 points per game.

For further appearances at the 1996 Olympics, Bolton continued with her national team, appearing at the Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. During the game against Ukraine, Bolton was the top scorer and had 21 points. She was the main personality on her team, helping the entire team win all eight games, thereby achieving the gold medal for Team USA.

Again for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Bolton continued with her national team. During the event, the US team won all eight levels and faced Australia in the final game where the US team showed their instant presence and eventually won the gold medal.

Back in October 2014, Ruthie Bolton opened up about her abusive relationship with her ex-husband. She confessed that her husband would have 15 guns and would tell her if she answered him he would kill him.
