Early life
Josh Pearson was born on September 24, 2002, in Monroe, Louisiana to Bill and Anna Pearson. His father worked as a firefighter and coached baseball before retiring. Josh is the fourth of five children in the family. His brother Jacob was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the third round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.
Before enrolling at LSU, he was a 2021 First Team All-State and All-Parish after a .430 batting average his senior year at West Monroe High. As a freshman in high school, he averaged a .420 batting average and hit eight home runs. As a running back, he was a key member of West Monroe High School’s football team.
He was a participant in the 2019 USA Baseball 17U National Team Development Program. While playing for the Sanford (Florida) River Rats, he won the 2021 Florida Collegiate League Most Valuable Player award.
He played in 28 games for Sanford and had 31 hits, 30 runs, 10 doubles, 4 home runs, and 23 steals (.333 batting average). He won the 2021 Florida Collegiate League Home Run Derby and set league records for stolen bases, doubles, and extra-base hits.

As a freshman in 2022, Josh Pearson played 51 games for the Tigers and made a huge impact. He started 27 games in the right field and eight games in the left field, hitting .299 (44 of 147) with 9 2B, 8 HR, 35 RBI, and 34 runs scored. With runners in goal position, he hit .459 (17 of 37), leading LSU.
He hit .333 (6 of 18) with a double, four RBI, and five runs scored, earning him a spot on the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional All-Tournament Team and placing him ninth in the SEC in hits by pitch. At the bottom of the 10th inning of LSU’s NCAA Hattiesburg Regional win over Southern Miss, he hit the game-winning run by landing at the shortstop to a force-out.
Pearson made history against Kentucky on May 26 by going 5-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI, and three runs, leading LSU to their first five-hit performance in an SEC tournament game. He hit .385 (5 of 13) with a double and two runs in LSU’s series win against Alabama (May 6-8). He hit two home runs and drove five runs to defeat Nicholls on May 3.
This was his second two-homer game of the season. On April 11, he was voted the SEC’s co-freshman of the week after leading LSU to a series win over Mississippi State (April 8-10), and in three games .455 (5 for 11) with two homers and hit six RBI and scored two runs. Pearson went 2-on-3 with two homers and five RBIs, and LSU defeated Mississippi State for the first time since May 2017.
